When people find out I’m a pastor, there’s often a moment or two of awkward silence. Sometimes, my new acquaintance will tell me about “Aunt Betty,” who attends the Presbyterian Church in Denver (small world!). And I’m frequently told that one doesn’t NEED a church in order to worship God (assuming, perhaps, that I am a 'church salesman').
Those who ask questions want to know how long I’ve been a pastor. I’ve been the pastor at West Hills Friends for over 17 years.
Other people want to know if I went to school. I have a philosophy degree from Portland State University and a “Divinitatis Magistrum” to show for my three years at Princeton Seminary.
And some people want to know about me. I’m happily married with two wonderful children. My wife’s name is Erica. My kids are Griffin and Graci. I like to explore new places, play basketball and cook with garlic. I like the wilderness. I like reading. John Woolman is the Quaker I most admire.
I'd love to get better acquainted. Let's go out to coffee!
